Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei used a 60 Minutes interview to renew his urgent call for AI regulation, warning that without oversight, the rapidly advancing technology could eliminate up to half of all entry-level consulting, legal, and financial jobs within five years.

Amodei predicted AI will soon surpass human intelligence, enabling breakthroughs like curing cancer, but cautioned that the job impact will be "faster than what we’ve seen from previous technology." He argued his firm must speak out about dangers, citing the need to avoid the fate of the tobacco and opioid industries.

Expressing his "deeply uncomfortable" position as an unelected decision-maker, Amodei stated that proactive, thoughtful regulation is imperative. His concerns about misuse were highlighted by a red team expert who warned of AI autonomously locking creators out of their companies, a fear underscored by recent reports of a Chinese state-sponsored cyberattack using Anthropic's model.
